White House told Paterson not to run for governor because they were worried about Rudy Giuliani

When President Obama's aides lowered the boom on Gov. Paterson, it was really a two-fer aimed as much at another White House worry: former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Apparently, just the whiff of a gubernatorial run by Giuliani - with his national fund-raising base and universal name recognition - was enough to spur the White House into asking Paterson to reconsider his re-election bid.
