NEW YORKERS FOR RUDY

Press Release: September 22, 2009

NEW YORKERS FOR RUDY

A bipartisan coalition of statewide movements to draft Rudy Giuliani for Governor of New York State has joined together to announce the formation of New Yorkers for Rudy.

One group, New Yorkers to Draft Rudy Giuliani for Governor, is chaired by Bartle Bull, Anthony Coles, Mrs. Thomas E. Dewey Jr., and Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. Bartle Bull, a former publisher of The Village Voice, served as Robert Kennedy’s New York campaign manager in 1968, as Executive Director of Citizens for Mario Cuomo for Governor in 1982, as Chairman of New Yorkers for Giuliani for Senate in 2000 and as Chairman of New York Democrats for McCain in 2008. Anthony Coles, a partner of the law firm DLA Piper in New York City, served as Deputy Mayor when Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York.

Mr. Bull and Mr. Coles stated that, "Rudy’s record of hard accomplishment, his combination of policy and performance, are as essential across our state today as they were in New York City when he cut taxes 23 times, balanced the budget 7 times, reduced crime by 57 per cent, cut unemployment in half, took 640,000 off the welfare rolls and added over 420,000 new private sector jobs."

The leader and founder of Draft Rudy for Governor 2010, Craig Eaton, a prominent New York City attorney, civic leader and the Chairman of the Kings County Republican Party, stated that, "We have come together because New York State today urgently needs the type of vigorous and honest leadership that Rudy Giuliani provided when he turned around our state’s biggest city as mayor of New York. Rudy transformed our city despite an overwhelmingly Democratic City Council. He can do the same in Albany, where the legislature is far more evenly balanced."

Another leading statewide group joining the coalition is DraftRudy.com, which has been in operation since late-November 2008. DraftRudy.com was founded by Greg Aguirre, Adam V. Sussman, Michael Fernandez, currently a Columbia Law School student, and Gene Sussman, a co-founder of GroupTracks, a software company that designed the software for DraftRudy.com. Speaking for the rapidly-growing organization, Adam Sussman said, "We invite all New Yorkers to join us in this critical campaign by signing up at: www.draftrudy.com <http://www.draftrudy.com/>."

Kellen Giuda, a leading organizer within the Tea Party movement that attracted thousands across New York State and millions around the nation, is the founder of Parcbench.com and Co-director of TeaParty365 Inc. Annemarie McAvoy, a former federal prosecutor who ran for Comptroller of New York City with Rudy in 1997 and who is now an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School, has also been an active leader in involving members of this group in drafting Giuliani for Governor. Mr. Giuda said that, "I look forward to helping draft Rudy Giuliani for Governor because just as New York City needed him before, so does New York State need him now."
